Magic School Bus

This was my final project in my injection molding class. We were given a design by 1st Graders at the local elementary school Our design was a (hovering) magic school bus.

Based off these drawings we made CAD models in NX, and machined aluminum molds off of these designs on Haas MiniMills.

In total we created four halves, each pair to make half of the bus. These molds were identical except for the assembly feature, which were 3 pins. This feature can be seen in the core of the molds on the right side of the image.

As you can see on the left, each half has a runner to bring hot plastic into the mold. Additionally, there are machined holes to mount to the injection molding machine.
