Embroidered Hand

This was my final project in my drawing class. It began with a desire to make a embroidered self portrait. I wanted to explore drawing with an unconventional medium, and chose string and cloth. For this project I used a navy velvet background and red embroidery yarn. The hand is open, with the ring finger and pinky finger curled.

The hand is stitched closely, while I let loose yarn form the arms. It is a reaching, a letting go, a moment of protest, and a moment of surrender. Read it as you will.
